How to share a folder from your own bucket

You already own the folder. You want a link you can send.

file.rocks is the UI. The objects stay in the bucket you connected.

This is a folder share. It is not one file. How to share a file from your own bucket sends a single object.

This path shares the folder prefix. The other person can browse that folder and its subfolders. They do not see the rest of the bucket.

1. No bucket yet

You need S3-compatible object storage. Not another Drive clone.

2. Open Files and share the folder

Sign in at file.rocks. Open Files. Pick a folder you own.

Open the folder row menu. Click Share folder....

You get a Share Folder dialog. Link expires defaults to Never. The list also has In 1 day, In 7 days, In 30 days, and Custom date. Password (optional) can stay blank.

The toggle starts as Create public link. Leave it off if you are not ready. After you create a link, off is Public link disabled. The setting is for this folder prefix, not the whole bucket.

Turn on Create public link. It flips to Public link enabled.

The toast is Enabling sharing... then Sharing enabled. A failed enable toasts Failed to enable sharing.

3. Copy the link

Click Copy link. The toast is Link copied to clipboard!

Text it. Email it. Paste it wherever you talk.

The folder does not move. The objects stay in the connected bucket.

Need a different expiry or password later? Use Save expiry / password. That path toasts Updating share… then Share updated. A failed save toasts Failed to update share.

Turn the toggle off to stop the link. The toast is Disabling sharing... then Sharing disabled. The label becomes Public link disabled. A failed disable toasts Failed to disable sharing.

4. What the other person sees

They open the folder share in a browser. They can browse that shared folder and its subfolders.

They do not see your bucket. They do not see other folders. They do not get a login.

If you set a password, they enter it first. You still own the folder. The bucket still holds it. file.rocks just made the link.

5. Then stop

Keep the bucket paid. The objects did not leave.
