How to rename a file in your own bucket

You already own the file. You want a name you can find later.

file.rocks is the UI. The object stays in the bucket you connected.

This is an in-place rename. It is not a move into another folder. If you need a folder first, that is how to create a folder in your own bucket. If the file is still on the laptop, that is how to upload files to your own bucket.

1. No bucket yet

You need S3-compatible object storage. Not another Drive clone.

2. Open Files and rename

Sign in at file.rocks. Open Files.

Open the file row menu. Choose Rename.

The modal is Rename File. The field is File name. The extension sits in its own box. Click Save (or Cancel).

The toast is Renaming file... then File renamed successfully. The object stays in the same folder. You are not copying it into file.rocks storage.

3. Names

The extension stays on the object. The part before it cannot be empty. Save stays disabled until there is a name.

A failed rename toasts Failed to rename file.

The objects stay in your bucket. Your provider sets the object limits.

4. Then stop

Keep the bucket paid. The file is still in the same place. Only the name changed.
