How to move a folder in your own bucket

You already own the folder. You want it nested under a different one.

file.rocks is the UI. The objects stay in the bucket you connected.

This is a folder move. It is not a single-file move. How to move a file to a folder in your own bucket rekeys one object. This path rekeys the folder prefix and everything under it.

1. No bucket yet

You need S3-compatible object storage. Not another Drive clone.

2. Open Files and move the folder

Sign in at file.rocks. Open Files. Pick a folder you own.

Open the folder row menu. Choose Move to folder.

The modal title is Move to /. While you browse it is Move to /current-folder. Click a folder to go in. .. goes up.

Click Move (or Cancel). Move stays disabled while the destination is the folder the folder is already in.

The toast is Moving folder... then Folder moved to {folder}. Root shows Folder moved to /. The folder prefix and its objects are rekeyed in the connected bucket. You are not copying them into file.rocks storage.

3. Folder move is not file move

One object vs a whole prefix. Same MoveModal. Different menu row and different toasts.

A failed folder move toasts Failed to move folder. That is not the file-move fail string.

The objects stay in your bucket. Your provider sets the object limits.

4. Then stop

Keep the bucket paid. The folder is still yours. It just lives under a different prefix.
