How to tag files in your own bucket

You already own the objects. You want labels on them so you can find them later.

file.rocks is the UI. Tags live in the file.rocks index. This is not a claim about provider object metadata.

This is tagging. It is not a remake of how to rename a file in your own bucket, how to move multiple files in your own bucket, or how to delete multiple files from your own bucket. Search and filter-by-tag stay a later post.

Two entry points. One file from the row menu. Many files from the toolbar.

1. No bucket yet

You need S3-compatible object storage. Not another Drive clone.

2. Tag one file

Sign in at file.rocks. Open Files. Pick a bucket you own.

Open a file row menu. Click Tags….

The modal title is Edit tags. The body says Edit tags for this file (comma-separated). The placeholder is vacation, family, 2024. Buttons are Save (shows Saving… while it saves) and Cancel.

Click Save.

The toast is Tags updated.

This path replaces the tag set for that file.

3. Tag several files

Check one or more file rows. Folders alone do not enable Tag. The toolbar shows {N} selected.

Click toolbar Tag.

The modal title is Add tags. The body says Enter tags to add (comma-separated). Same placeholder. Same Save / Cancel.

Click Save.

The toast is Tags added. If somehow no files are selected, you get Select files to tag.

This path only adds. It does not wipe tags already on those files.

4. Then stop
