How to refresh the file list in your own bucket

Cover image

Sometimes you change a bucket without file.rocks. You might delete files in your provider's dashboard or add a batch with a sync script. When you come back to file.rocks, the file list doesn't show those changes yet.

That's because file.rocks shows the files it already knows about. Changes made somewhere else show up after a fresh listing of the bucket. One button starts that listing for you.

Step 1: Open the bucket in Files

Open Files and pick the bucket you changed. The top bar shows the path you are in, like Files and any folders below it.

The Refresh listing button sits on the right side of that top bar, next to the path. It only shows when a bucket is open.

Step 2: Click Refresh listing

Click Refresh listing. The refresh icon on the button spins, and the button is greyed out while the request runs. You can't click it again until it finishes.

Step 3: Check the file list

When the request goes through, a toast shows "Full listing started". The file and folder list reloads at the same time.

The full listing can keep running in the background after the toast. Our advice: if something you expect is still missing, check back in a bit and open the folder again.

If the refresh fails

If the request doesn't go through, a toast shows "Listing refresh failed". Our advice: wait a moment and click Refresh listing again.

Optional: update your usage numbers

The Usage page has its own Refresh button on each bucket's card. It recounts the bucket from the files file.rocks already knows about. So after a refresh listing, you can update the numbers there too. See how to check storage usage in your own bucket.

Your files stay in the bucket you connected, and file.rocks is how you manage them.
