Import a file from a link or torrent

You already have a link. A direct download, a magnet, or a .torrent file. You want the bytes in a bucket you own.

file.rocks is the UI. The objects land in the bucket you connected. They do not sit on your laptop first.

This is inbound. If you want a link you can send, that is how to share a file from your own bucket. If the pile is a Google Takeout zip, use Move Google Drive to your own bucket or Move Google Photos to your own bucket.

1. No bucket yet

You need S3-compatible object storage. Not another Drive clone.

2. Open Import from a link

Sign in at file.rocks. Open Settings, then Import.

The default tab is From zip. Switch to From link.

The panel title is Import from link. That is the path for this post.

3. Paste a URL, a magnet, or a torrent

In Download URL or magnet, paste an https:// link or a magnet:?xt= string.

Or use Choose File under Or upload a .torrent file.

Pick the destination bucket. Subfolder (optional) is there if you want something like downloads/iso.

This is for files you already have a right to. Your backup. A public dataset. A Linux ISO. It is not a piracy guide.

4. Start the download

Click Start download.

An HTTP link starts right away. A magnet or .torrent resolves metadata first. Then you Select files to download. Use Download selected or Download all.

Caps are 50 GB per file and 1 TB per job.

Wait until it finishes. Open a file and make sure it plays or opens.

You are not copying into file.rocks storage. file.rocks is the UI. The objects land in your bucket.

5. Watch it in Recent imports

Recent imports is where you Pause, Resume, Retry, or Cancel.

If a job sticks, Retry. If you picked the wrong files, Cancel and start again.

6. What fails

A login wall fails. So does an intranet URL your laptop can see and the importer cannot.

A magnet needs peers. If nobody is seeding, it sits.

Do not paste a cookie-gated Dropbox or Google Drive share and expect it to work. Those are not open downloads.

7. Then stop

Do not rebuild a download manager. Keep the bucket paid.
